So it all started in a casual conversation, between me, a structured accountant that never lived anywhere else, and an Australian girl, that had lived in too many places. Being a digital nomad was a dream I felt unreachable, only for people in IT or foreigners that were very lucky.
It is for real, she told me. I found it hard to believe I replied, with my profession is impossible, and there are so many places that seem fake that I wouldn`t even know where to start. Try Upwork, she insisted, that`s where I work and allows me to travel the world, with your skills you will be more than fine. Ok, I said, let me write it down.
This was January 2017. Saved the name in my memory and continued with my normal 9 to 5 life. In June, I decided I needed a change, I wanted to be somewhere else, I was feeling stucked. I signed up in the platform, gave it a look. Seemed nice, amicable. But, didn`t have the time to look deeper. One night, it hit me. It was needed for me to quit my 5 year- comfort zone - job and leave my country and follow my dream. So I did, in April 2018 I was living in an other continent, in a city I had never been to, in a shared apartment when I earned my first 5 dollars! It felt like a million dollars. 4 months later I became a top rated freelancer, couldn`t believe it, finally it was no longer a dream!
And I am confident there is much road to be walked yet...
